Making Your Club History

[Brief History] [How To Make History] [Archive] [Club History] [Wish List] [Past Governors] == [Email the Historian]

When creating your club history, please remember that it is going to be stored as an electronic document. This means that the size of the history is not an issue. If you wish to include the name of every member whoever joined - okay. Want to mention all the dates that the meetings went over time – fine. You may, however, wish to give a synopsis before going into the details.

At some point the material might be edited, but the original material submitted will always be available.

If you wish to include pictures, that’s fine but I ask that you also send me separate electronic versions as well – extracting them from a document sometimes damages the resolution.

The one thing that I really want is a record of all the ribbons that the club has on its banner – including the ribbons that no one remembers what they mean (for example, Club #1586 Ambitious City has several ‘Spring into Action’ ribbons – I haven’t tracked down what they were for yet).

Here is other material I’ve thought of to include in the history, if you have any suggestions for this questionnaire, please email them
  1. Charter Date (preferably the real date, the dates on the Find a Club section of Toastmaster International have mostly been rounded to the first of the month for some reason).
  2. Names of Club Sponsors, Club Mentors and Sponsoring Clubs.
  3. Story of the founding of the club.
  4. Names of Charter members and charter executives
  5. Names of Presidents
  6. Details of educational achievements
  7. Special events over the years (charter parties, anniversary parties, visits from the mayor, etc).
  8. Notable members (e.g. past Area, Division, District Officers, or International Directors).
  9. Clubs that your club has sponsored.
  10. Any association with Gavel or Toastmistress Clubs.
  11. List of venue and meeting time changes for the club.
  12. Major changes in club history (e.g. going from closed to open, loss of corporate sponsorship, membership crisis.)
  13. How the club got its name.
